Hi.

Welcome to my blog, where I document my adventures as a mom living and loving in the Midwest. I live on a budget (my fashion is based on clearance racks), eat pretty clean because of my thyroid (Hashimoto’s disease), stay home with my kids (who I love with all my heart, yet can often use a break from), and am finally getting back into writing (after years of forgetting it made me happy).

Conversations with Carol.

Conversations with Carol.

Sometimes we need to take a deeper, more meaningful, dive.

Have you ever met someone and known within seconds that they were special? Not so much special like the way you feel when you meet a new friend, but special in the way you inherently know they are eventually going teach you things you didn’t even know you needed to know? I’m lucky in that I have a few friends who fit this description. And one of those friends is Carol.

I first met Carol when we both lived in Omaha, Nebraska. Anyone who knows her would say she is a genuine person, with a kind soul, a welcoming smile, and a comforting laugh. I have described her to some friends as a hug. A retired therapist, forever dedicated to the betterment of humans in need, Carol’s greatest gift is that of connection. Connection to people, connection to spirit, connection to energy. If this sounds confusing, it’s because it is confusing. Very confusing. Unfamiliar to most, and misunderstood by many, the kind of work Carol does is exceptionally hard to explain.

You see, Carol is what I call an energy worker. To make the intro quick I’d say she balances chakras, reads auras, and guides clients to more fulfilling lives. But the truth is, it’s almost impossible to explain what it feels like to receive energy work from this incredible spirit. It almost feels like a gift to be in her presence, and receive her wisdom. A session with you would be completely different than a session with me, or a neighbor down the street, or a stranger in NYC.

As people we all carry different hurts and bring different baggage with us on our journeys, we celebrate different things, and embrace life through eyes only we can see through. People like Carol can dig deep into our emotions, and grab on to what we need the most. It’s a process so personal that it defies explanation, yet feels beautiful beyond words.

Last weekend my dear friend came to town to visit her 91-year-old aunt and 93-year-old uncle. It’s been six years since I saw my friend in person, and I was immediately delighted that she would be in my state for a few days. We made plans to get dinner, then almost out of nowhere  something made me ask if she would consider doing a few private sessions while she was in town. She thought about it for a few seconds, then said ... of course. I had talked about her amazing gift of insight to a few friends and was pretty confident I could get at least three appointments. Carol ended up seeing seven clients, one after another, on a beautiful fall day in Minnesota. Over the span of eight hours my friend Carol took seven of my amazing friends on a journey, and gave them the opportunity to simultaneously look outside of themselves, and go deep within their souls—all within an hours time. No more than 60 minutes each, but somehow feeling like a lifetime, my friend connected with seven others during sessions too personal to share, and completely unique to each individual.

Truth be told, I have no idea what was said to anyone, as it’s not my business. Carol would never tell me even if I asked. But what I can tell you, is that over the next few days I heard from five of the clients, who all described their time with her as informative, and special. One client told me that it felt as if she learned a lifetime’s worth of lessons in one hour, and that she is planning to do a phone session in the future. Another described it as wonderful and truly beyond words, and in another text said it was life affirming. And when I asked another if she had fun, she gently said something to the tune of, it’s not fun, it’s important.

You see, when you go deep—you go deep. There is sometimes a need for Kleenex, and comfort, and hugs. When I asked Carol if people cry in her sessions, she said with a wink, “all except your mother.” And while that was a bit of a joke, as we had just discussed with my mom, the three of us at dinner, that her stoicism is part of her energy, the same woman who was more than a tad nervous to even see Carol in session, said to me, “I met a kindred spirit.”

That is the kind of connection I’m talking about. A client, unsure of the entire process, less that two hours post session, refers to this energetic woman as a kindred spirit. Oh, how I love Carol. Oh, how happy I am to have had the opportunity to share her with my friends.

If you’ve ever seen a doctor for a headache or a broken bone, or taken an ibuprophen for a sore back, or gotten a massage for relaxation, or seen a trainer for strength training, or a yogi to find balance— then you understand what it means to take care of yourself. If therapy is important for our minds, and medicine and food are important for our bodies, then I’d say energy is important for our souls. And Conversations with Carol are like hugs for the soul. It’s all the same, except very, very different.

I don’t know how ibuprofen works, or how bones heal, or how anxious minds settle. And I certainly don’t know how Carol uses energy and intuition to help a human on their life journey. And while I don’t know any of this stuff—one thing I know for sure is that I am grateful that people like Carol exist, and that helpers come in many forms.

If anyone is interested in contacting Carol, please let me know. I will happily get you in touch with this beautiful human, so that you, too, can experience the wonder of this kind of healing. Trust me, you will never forget the magic of her intuition, mixed with her incredible kindness.
